At a crossroads, voters can stop the spiral

DEAR EDITOR:

''We The People'' continue to error in our judgment, and we continue to refuse to accept the responsibility for our choices. You want proof?

For instance, it is time to elect our future government leaders. Is it not wise to elect politicians who represent or share our thoughts, our beliefs and our true needs? Why would we vote for someone who has a history of making past decisions that do not agree or reflect our own?

Both political parties have to be monitored closely. I so wish there were more Independents, where I could find and vote for people of integrity who will do what is right and not necessarily play party politics. We must vote for the person first, and not for the party. During the past 45 years, I have heard my fellow citizens state that they are voting for one party only, the straight party line for each open post. From past experience, we should have learned that you cannot vote for politicians from one-party-line only. We must vote for the person of integrity and one who understands the basis of a republic.

Where does that line of thinking place us today? Our government was established on a checks and balances system. Why would we want to set ourselves up so that certain politicians could capture one ticket and force their line of thinking on all of us?

Our forefathers set up a checks and balances system to make sure corruption could not take over our government. Many European, African, South American and Asian countries have fallen victim to corrupt leadership who captured a government for their own wants and desires and not the rights and needs of and for the people.

''We The People'' are at a crossroads. We want the three legs of our government to maintain a checks and balances system. Only those lacking common sense would vote solely along party lines with the intent of allowing one party of politicians to control us. Do we want a Marxist, communist or socialist government? We need leaders who will devote themselves to overcoming a corrupted society.

We are a republic of and for the citizen. Do not vote for politicians who support immoral special interest groups or have a voting history that shows, without a doubt, that they will destroy the republic as it stands. We must choose leaders with morals and integrity. "We the People" must take this nation back and place the pillars of Judeo-Christian belief back where they belong.

"We the People" can stop this downward spiral and return this country to its roots. When voting let wisdom prevail. When the politician we voted into office promotes moral decay and/or a loss of our rights as a U.S. citizen, the slime of that loss is stuck on our hands. Let's be careful for whom we vote.
