Butler lecture series returns
The ''Who's Who in Art'' lecture series resumes Sunday with ''Art Between the Wars (1915-1945)'' at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
Director Louis Zona will look at art in the first half of the 20th century, a period of dramatic social, economic and political change. The talk will cover American-born artists as well as those who came to the United States from Europe and beyond.

Sculptor gives workshops at YSU
Sculptor / potter Liz Smith will conduct two free workshops next week at Youngstown State University.
According to Smith, an associate professor of art at the University of Central Arkansas, her work is inspired by the elaborate European porcelains of the 19th century and of the decorative aesthetic of the Victorian era.
Workshops are scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Bliss Hall Ceramics Studio Room1059. She also will lecture at 4 p.m. Nov. 1 at the McDonough Museum of Art, 411 Wick Ave., Youngstown. All three events are free. For more information, call 330-941-3627.
Artists lectures at YSU
Youngstown State University's Department of Art's Visiting Artist Lecture Series will feature Ali Momeni at 4 p.m. Tuesday in room 3000 of Bliss Hall.
Momeni, who was born in Iran and came to the United States at age 12, is a builder, composer and performer interested in the poetics of gesture, affect and timing. His work makes use all manners of technology to explore the social lives of objects and their embedded performative qualities. His creative output ranges from kinetic sculptures and sound installations, to urban interventions and music theater performance.
He currently teaches in the school of art at Carnegie Mellon University and oversees CMU ArtFab. Admission to the lecture is free. For more information, call 330-941-3627.
Children stage Shakespeare in Boardman
The children's theater group After School Arts will present ''Supper With Shakespeare'' on Friday and Saturday at its theater, 7206 Market St., Boardman.
The group of 18 actors ages 6 to 15 will present scenes from such Shakespeare productions as ''Romeo and Juliet,'' ''Macbeth,'' ''As You Like It,'' ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' and ''Much Ado About Nothing.''
Show time is 7 p.m. each day with a Medieval-style dinner and dessert served at 6 p.m. Tickets for the dinner-show package are $15 and can be ordered by calling 330-518-4064.
JCC offers Pittsburgh 'Flashdance' trip
The Youngstown Jewish Community Center is planning a bus trip to Pittsburgh to see ''Flashdance: The Musical'' when comes to Pittsburgh's Heinz Hall.
The stage production is based on the 1983 film and includes the songs ''Flashdance ... What a Feeling,'' ''Maniac'' and ''I Love Rock and Roll.'' Pittsburgh, the setting for the movie, is the opening stop on the U.S. tour of the new musical.
The bus will leave JCC at 2 p.m. Jan. 6. The cost for the trip and the show ticket is $65 for JCC members and $75 for non-members. For more information, call 330-746-3251, Ext. 106.
'Delivery' arrives in Columbiana
Crown Theater Productions stages ''The Delivery ... from terror to hope'' for a two-weekend run at the Main Street Theater, 5 N. Main St., Columbiana.
The story is set in a small town and details how one tragedy can affect the lives of those involved. But then a terrible discovery and a mysterious delivery begin to transform their lives in a way they never expected.
