This time of year, it seems the undead have a busier social life than the living.
Saturday in Youngstown, zombies can shamble around downtown for a pub crawl and then head to the Calvin Center for the Arts for a Zombie Prom.
Pretend zombies - and non-zombies - are welcome, too.
This is the third year for the Youngstown Zombie Crawl. Registration begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery and the B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave. Participants are asked to donate a minimum of $1 to the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, and registrants will receive a wrist band good for discounted food and drink specials at participating merchants and access to the Zombie Trolley that will travel to the various locations throughout the evening.
At Oak Hill Cemetery, volunteers from the Mahoning Valley Historical Society will pass out cemetery maps and lead guided cemetery tours from 2 to 5:30 p.m., and photographer Mark Stahl will be taking free Facebook pictures from 2 to 6 p.m.
At the B&O Station, area makeup artist will be available to help transform participants into zombies. Some will charge set fees and others will accept donations.
The Zombie Crawl officially starts at 6:30 p.m. with the zombies making their way across the Firefighters Memorial Bridge and up West Federal Street to Central Square, where the Thrill the World Dancers will perform Michael Jackson's ''Thriller.''
Downtown businesses offering food and/or drink specials to crawl participants include the Royal Oaks, Cassese's MVR, Cafe Cimmento, Dooneys, Club 9INE, V2 Wine Bar and Trattoria, Old Precinct, the Lemon Grove, the Draught House, Imbibe, O'Donalds, Cedars and the Youngstown Maennerchor.
The second annual Youngstown Zombie Prom features a junior prom from 6 to 9 p.m. for teens and children ages 17 and younger, and an adult party from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave. The adult costume party will feature live music, food, beer (and brains, according to the press release) along with live performances by Tribe Eos and Zombie Starrlet. Professional makeup artists and palm readers will be on hand and a $100 prize will be awarded for the best costume.
Admission is $5 and proceeds will benefit the Calvin Center for the Arts.
