BP America has invested $50,000 in a new curriculum for Trumbull County schools.
The curriculum involves a state-of-the-art, web-based STEM program and will affect 20,000 students in grades 4 through 12 in Trumbull County's public school districts.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
BP will announce its investment today in a 1:30 p.m. demonstration at TCESC, 6000 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles, where a science teacher and several students will demonstrate the operation of the web-based system.
One of the reasons BP invested in the curriculum was due to education funding taking big hits within the past few years, said Curtis Thomas, BP's director of Government and Public Affairs.
"It's important for us to invest in the communities where we operate," he said, adding BP strives to keep initiatives and programs alive, especially with regard to schools, charities and nonprofit organizations.

After the STEM program is officially launched today, teachers will go through training, with the curriculum expected to be in operation by the end of the year.
