YOUNGSTOWN - U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown on Monday unveiled his bill aimed at boosting domestic apparel and textile manufacturing.
Brown said the bill, the Wear American Act of 2012, would revise a law requiring that 51 percent of federal agency purchases of textiles and apparel be made of products made in the U.S., and would require that textile and apparel articles acquired for use by federal agencies be manufactured from goods entirely grown, produced or manufactured in the U.S.
"Whenever possible, American tax dollars should be used to bolster American manufacturing,'' Brown said. "With our widening trade deficit, we should be doing everything we can to support American manufacturing and job creation."
