Randy Law listened, and was helpful

DEAR EDITOR:

I would like to relay a political experience that I had with Randy Law when he was my state representative.

There was a move afoot to change the sales tax law to make it mandatory to charge sales tax interstate among approximately 14 neighboring states instead of only in Ohio like it has always been. Since I have a small Internet business, that was going to be a great inconvenience (if not an impossibility) for me since I am a one-man operation and not really educated in commerce laws.

I called Randy to see if he could help stop the law change. He said he did not like the amendment himself and would let me know the results of a meeting in Columbus the very next day. I was very much surprised when he called me just after the meeting from his cellphone to tell me that there would be no change in the law, so I could relax and continue my small business the way I had been doing.

I told him that he was the first politician who listened to me and actually did something about it. I cannot tell you how much that meant to me at the time, and it still does.
