DEAR EDITOR:
I will never again vote for the Howland school levy.
I have grandchildren in the high school. Due to financial difficulties, my daughter did not have the extra money for workbooks for a subject. The kids had their grade lowered for not having the books. When she finally had the money and got the books in late September or early October, my grandson was told he could not make up the work and his grade would remain lowered.
This boy works hard and has been on the honor roll. Thank goodness my other grandchild's teacher is letting him make up the work. I think it is a shame that a parent has to buy a necessary book. If it is crucial to the subject, it should be included with the textbook. Not every parent can afford all the money needed at the beginning of the school year.
Isn't this why I pay for the levies? Well, not anymore. I will never again vote for any levy for the Howland school system.
