White is favorite car color, Eastern Ohio dealers say
The highest percentage of car buyers, about 21 percent, picked white cars for the second consecutive year both globally and in North America, according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio Inc.
Although 45 percent of respondents in PPG Industries car color survey said they would prefer a wider range of color choices, white remained the favorite.
White was ranked at 21 percent in North America, followed by black, silver and gray, red, blue, natural and green.
"The palette being developed for the automotive segment continues to be influenced by culture, nature, fashion, interior design, color popularity and new pigment technology," says Jane E. Harrington, PPG manager of color styling, automotive OEM coatings.
Nearly 80 percent of respondents said exterior color was a factor in their vehicle purchase decision. Owners of large luxury cars, sporty cars and large premium SUVs put the most value on their choice of color.
