One sent to hospital in motorcycle crash

LIBERTY - An accident involving two motorcycles at Mount Everett Road and Warner Road sent one of the riders to the hospital.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers received the call about 8:38 p.m. Wednesday. The motorcycles were traveling west when they bumped into one another, according to patrol reports.

Investigators were still on the scene Wednesday night. Additional information, including names of motorcyclists, was unavailable late Wednesday.

Gunfire wounds man in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN - Police say a man was shot several times about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday at Kensington and Bissel avenues on the North Side.

A spokesman said 911 call takers could hear screaming in the background, and that someone was in a car before the man, who was outside, was shot.

Police found eight spent shell casings at the scene.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Police: Man accused of taking copper pipes

YOUNGSTOWN - Police caught a man inside a vacant South Side home that had been stripped of copper pipes.

Heath Shiflett, 22, of East Myrtle Avenue, was arraigned in Municipal Court on Wednesday on the charge of breaking and entering.

Officers on patrol spotted a man leaving a vacant house at 413 Glenwood Ave. about 1:05 p.m. Tuesday. The man ran through several yards before getting away, a police report states.

When officers went back to the house, they heard pounding and other sounds. Officers went inside and ordered anyone inside to come out, the report states.

Shiflett came out and said he was watching the house for someone else but did not own it. In a neighboring home was a pile of pipes and other scrap. The room Shiflett was in had fresh marks of being stripped of copper pipe, police said.

Police confiscate fake assault rifle

WARREN - Police confiscated a replica assault rifle Tuesday from a man who said he was looking for a fugitive while working for a bail bond company.

Police were called about 5:05 p.m. to 1977 Niles Road on a report of a man threatening three other men with a gun. When officers arrived, they found a man putting what appeared to be an assault rifle in his car's trunk, a police report states.

The man, who was dressed like a law enforcement task force officer, told police he was working for a bond company, but did not have a bond license, the report states. He said he was looking for a fugitive when he pulled out the rifle, which turned out to be an AR-15 BB gun, police said.

Police took the gun, along with a bulletproof vest and 350 BBs, and released the man pending an investigation.

McDonald officials hear of electrical aggregation

McDONALD - Village Council is reviewing an electrical aggregation option for the community after hearing a presentation Wednesday night from Jack Haney of NOPEC .

Council President Pro-Tem Mike O'Brien said several communities have gas or electrical opt-in or opt-out programs provided to their residents. The village has had an aggregation contract with Direct Energy Services LLC to supply natural gas services to those residents who decide to opt into the program.

Council also heard from Village Administrator Tom Domitrovich who attended a seminar with BP on oil and gas drilling options available to communities. Several Trumbull County communities have reached agreements with BP for drilling.
