Packard Big Band celebrates Sweetest Day

The W.D. Packard Concert Band will offer an early and free way to celebrate Sweetest Day.

The 20-piece Big Band Sound of Packard, led by Daniel Carioti and featuring vocalist Helen Welch, will provide the dance music for a Sweetest Day Dance from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren.

Admission is free and funding is provided by the W.D. Packard trust.

Library program explores the paranormal

Local paranormal tales will be the topic of a program at 6 p.m. Monday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W.

Dave Karr of the Ohio Valley Paranormal Research Group will talk about his group's activities and its investigations in Trumbull County.

Howland library features swamp stories

''Swamp Stories'' will be told at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Howland branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 9095 East Market St.

Amy Reeher from the Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will focus on the wild side of wetlands with a look at who calls the wetland habitat a home.

Mill Creek offers Spooktacular event

Mill Creek MetroParks will have its Spooktacular Funfest from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Judge Morley Pavilion in the Wick Recreation Area.

The new event is designed to help families enjoy a safe and fun Halloween. Children are invited to come in costume, trick or treat at vendor booths and play games. The group Hey Kid will perform at 3:15 p.m., and the event also will include a mummy wrap contest and an appearance by Jocko the Clown.

Children can register for the costume contest at 12:30 p.m., and a competition for costumed pets (which must be secured on a leash) is planned at 1 p.m. For more information, call,330-740-7106.

Farm plans magical fundraiser

Tickets are on sale for a magical fundraiser for the Hiram Farm, which works with adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Leavittsburg native Gary Morton, who has performed at the Magic Castle and appeared on such television series as ''Cheers'' and ''Night Court,'' will perform at the dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Atrium at Northeast Ohio Medical University, 4209 State Route 44, Rootstown. Hiram Farm is known locally for cultivating organically-grown produce for sale to community members and others who come to visit, as well as for sharing its land and tools with friends of The Farm who grow their own produce, and for welcoming community members to various functions on the Farm through open houses and craft sales.

Tickets for "A Magical Night for Autism" are $50. Advance reservations are required and can be made online at www.hiramfarm.org. For more information, call 330-569-3441.

'Eden' musical opens in Sharon

The musical ''Children of Eden'' opens Friday at the James E. Winner Jr. Arts & Culture Center, 98 E. State St., Sharon, Pa.

The show, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (''Godspell,'' ''Wicked''), tells such biblical stories as the creation of the world, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and Noah and the ark. It is directed by Stacy Anderson.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for center members and $15 for non-members. For tickets or more information, call 724-983-8222.
