The Dana School of Music will present a fall choral concert Monday at St. Columba Cathedral.
''Singing from the Heart in Time of Change'' will be the theme of the program, which will feature the YSU Dana Chorale, Women's Chorus and University Chorus, all conducted by Hae-Jong Lee.
They will be accompanied by guest instrumentalists Kathy Miller and Diane Yazvac and several soloists from the Dana School of Music.
The Dana Chorale will open the program with "A Little Jazz Mass" by Bob Chilcott in five movements. The chorale will be accompanied by Dan Kalosky on bass and Roger Lewis on drums.
The Women's Chorus will continue the concert with "Kyrie" by John Leavitt; "Hotaru Koi" (Ho, Firefly), a Japanese children's song; and ''Tollite hostias" from the Christmas Oratorio by Camille Saint-Saens.
Then, the University Chorus will take the stage with "Missa Brevis Santi Joannis de Deo" by Joseph Haydn, a traditional Mass setting in six movements. Guest instrumentalists include Zack Weese, violin; Abigail McClaughlin, violin; Tyler Matthew, cello,; and Kalosky, string bass. It is also called "Little Organ Mass" because the "Benedictus" movement includes an organ solo (by Kathy Miller) accompanying a soprano solo (by Alyssa Leith). The University Chorus will close with "Swell the Full Chorus" from the oratorio "Solomon" by G. F. Handel.
The Dana Chorale will return for three more songs - the contemporary masterpiece "Alleluia" by Eric Whitacre, featuring soprano Lauren Corcoran and tenor Victor S. Cardamone; "Light of a Clear Blue Morning," featuring soprano Allyson Pollice; and "I've Been in the Storm So Long."
The Symphonic Choir will conclude the concert with "Holy God We Praise Thy Name" and Beethoven's "Hallelujah" from the oratorio "Christ on the Mount of Olives."
The concert starts at 8 p.m. Monday at St. Columba, 159 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown. Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be collected.
