Former Hubbard Twp. police chief dies
BURGHILL - Former Hubbard Townhsip police Chief Calvin Richard "Rick" Wells died Thursday at his home.
Wells, 57, began his law enforcement career as a Trumbull County Sheriff's deputy. In 1978, he moved over to the Hubbard Township police as a patrolman. He remained with the department until he retired in 2006.
Part of his tenure in the township included a stint as chief beginning in 1991. He stepped down as the top cop in 1995, however, to give trustees the right to choose their own chief because he was appointed by a different set of trustees.
He was replaced by current chief, Todd Coonce.
Wells is survived by his wife, Tammy, and three daughters.

Patrol: Collision sends one to hospital
POLAND - One person was injured when two vehicles collided here about 8 p.m. Sunday on state Route 224.
According to the Canfield post of the Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2009 Honda Civic, Robert Masi, 19, of Poland, rear ended the driver of a 2004 Toyota Corolla sedan driven by David Shepherd.
The impact of the crash flipped the Corolla on its roof, according to the patrol.
Shepherd was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and his condition was unknown late Sunday.
Masi was cited and troopers had to reroute traffic while working the accident.
Warren crews battle garage fire
WARREN - City fire crews were called out to a garage fire shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of Hollywood N.E.
According to scanner traffic, the garage was engulfed in flames and a vehicle was inside.
Firefighters on the scene said the garage sat close to the house.
The fire was extinguished within minutes.
The cause the fire or extent of damage was not known late Sunday.
