YOUNGSTOWN - Extradition proceedings are in the works after a suspect in a New York City homicide was arrested here last week.

Alexander Scott, 23, a suspect in the Aug. 4 homicide of Bronx resident, Derrick Richardson, 22, was nabbed Thursday by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, Youngstown Division.

Police aren't sure of the motive in the slaying but believe an argument between the two turned violent.

The Youngstown Division determined Scott was living on the South Side after receiving a tip from the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Local crews conducted surveillance on the house and arrested Scott without incident during a traffic stop.

"Getting violent fugitives off the streets is one of the things the Task Force does best," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said. "The successful partnership we have with local police departments is a major reason we are able to track down people who think they can flee from justice."

Scott is expected to be extradited back to New York.
