WARREN Police continued to search Saturday night for a person who fired shots just after midnight at an officer passing in a cruiser in the area of Fourth Street and Highland Avenue S.W.
Patrolman Brian Martinek reported that someone fired several shots at him early Saturday. No shots hit Martinek's cruiser.
The weapon he saw firing the shots was a "long gun, semi-automatic,'' according to police scanner traffic.
The shots were fired just after midnight, according to a police report. Within minutes, other officers including Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers swarmed the area, set up a perimeter and searched the southwest side neighborhood.
A witness told police he saw someone run east along a fence on Fourth wearing a "puffy, winter-type jacket" but a search was unsuccessful.
