WARREN - Fathers will be joining their children Tuesday at schools as part of the Fathers Take Your Child to School Day being held at all grades in Warren City Schools.

The Trumbull County Fatherhood Initiative and Collaboration Station, which organized the event, has invited Mayor Doug Franklin, Trumbull County commissioners and other officials to speak and participate.

Cheryl Smith, director of Collaboration Station, said all programs will be at the very beginning of the school day, when children will spend breakfast with their dads.

Smith said each school has activities planned during the morning, including sharing of stories by officials and speakers of how their dad or father figure had a positive influence in their lives

''We are asking the officials to give fathers and father-figures encouraging words and to salute them for their participation. We want to let the fathers and father figures know how important it is for them to support their children on this day,'' she said.

The group hopes to encourage fathers that their role as dads is very important to their children and that anything they do to support their children has a positive impact on their children as they grow up

The Trumbull County Fatherhood Initiative wants fathers and father figures to know that the organization supports them and the vital role they play in the lives of children, Smith said.

Plans are to launch various events that bring fathers and their children together in a fun and educational way; provide fathers with access to information on the resources that are currently available to them in the community that offer assistance; obtain valuable feedback from fathers on issues affecting them and their needs and increase outreach efforts informing the community of the Fatherhood Initiative in Trumbull County.

Anyone interested in having a Father Walk event hosted at their child's school can call 330-984-4318.
