Howl-o-Ween event set at park

HOWL-O-WEEN EVENT SET AT PARK: The Mosquito Lake Dog Park will hold the fourth annual Howl-o-Ween dog walk and costume parade from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the park in Bazetta. The event is a fundraiser for the park. There is a suggested check-in donation of $10.

There will be games, vendors and a parade with door prize drawings in different categories. Rain date is Oct. 21.

CRAFTERS FOR A CAUSE: The Fairhaven School craft show for disability awareness will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Fairhaven School, 420 Lincoln Way, Niles. Admission is free.

The event includes music, entertainment, 50-50 raffle, children's identification kits, and blood pressure checks. Exhibitors may reserve a space for $25 by calling 330-652-9800.

RALLY SET AT SQUARE: A rosary rally will be held at noon Saturday on Warren Courthouse Square.

GIRARD HOLDS LEAF COLLECTION: Girard city is requiring the use of paper lawn bags for the annual leaf collection. Leaves raked to the street will not be picked up by the city. Bags are available through Nov. 16 at the Girard Street Department garage, 943 S. State St. The first five bags are provided at no cost with proof of residency. Additional bags are available at five for $1.

FIRE DEPARTMENT HOLDS OPEN HOUSE: The Howland Fire Department will hold its open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the main fire station, 169 Niles-Cortland Road. Scheduled are fire hose activities, balloons, face painting, antique fire trucks, car seat inspection, fire safety trailer and auto extrication demonstration.

HABITAT SEEKS HELP: Habitat for Humanity of Trumbull County is seeking assistance with its warehouse, which is overstocked with cabinets, doors and windows. To clean rooms, a sale will be held starting at 9 a.m. today and Saturday at 418 Main Ave., Warren. Profit goes to rehabilitating houses.

FILMMAKER TO BE GUEST SPEAKER: The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St., will have Oscar-nominated, Emmy-winning filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman speaking at 2 p.m. Sunday. Fadiman will discuss her work on the issue of choice in America spanning the days of illegal abortion to the struggle to maintain Roe V. Wade today. She will screen excerpts from her PBS documentary trilogy.

Seating is limited.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING OFFERED: Hospice of the Valley's new volunteer training classes are held from 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays starting Oct. 19 in the conference room at St. Joe's at the Mall, Eastwood Mall. Classes are for five weeks, through Nov. 16.

Volunteers are particularly needed to serve patients in Trumbull County. Hospice volunteers serve in a variety of ways, including companions for hospice patients at home or in nursing homes.
