John F. Kennedy's Laurencia Lee defeated Cardinal Mooney's Gianna Reider 7-5, 6-2 early Saturday in a Division II sectional semifinal at Boardman High School, but her quest for the sectional title came to an end with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Mooney's Kacey Haggerty in the final, the second time Haggerty has defeated Lee this season.

Lee's runner-up finish was still good enough to advance her to the district tournament, which will be held this week in Canton.

Mooney's Hallie Yerian defeated Reider 6-3, 6-3 in the third-place match, advancing both players to districts.

In doubles action, Mooney's Dominique Cicchi and Jamie DiDomenico defeated Kennedy's Megan Guliano and Maria Stroup 6-2, 6-4 for the sectional title. Anastasia Cardarelli and Missy Soldressen of Struthers beat Poland's Elise Eckman and Cara Palusak 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 for third place.

As with the singles, all four doubles teams will advance to the district tournament.

CANFIELD'S PAVLANSKY TAKES SECTIONAL RUNNER-UP: CANTON - Canfield's Allison Pavlansky lost to Massillon Jackson's Tessa Hill for the Division I girls tennis sectional title, 7-6 (7), 6-1.

Green's Danielle Beyes beat Lake's Katherine McCauley for third place, 6-2, 6-3.

The four were playing for seeding at Thursday's district at Oberlin College - beginning at 9 a.m.
