DEAR EDITOR:
When it comes to politics, I have to say that for me nothing has been as refreshing as the Republican Convention a few weeks ago. The speakers were very encouraging, including the many Republican governors who spoke of the success they have had in bringing their state's debt under control. They stressed that this election isn't about politicians - but about "we the people" and what direction we want this country to go. We must decide whether we want to remain stagnant or strive for change by electing Mitt Romney.
If we continue down this road, one day we will become like Argentina and other socialist-type countries. Argentina's standard of living was once among the top five in the world, but then the government created a completely dependent population, the key word is dependent, and things have not been the same since. President Obama's vision for the U.S. runs parallel to what has happened to Argentina. If we want the U.S. to remain strong, we cannot continue with his policies or we will be in a quagmire for years to come. As it is, it will take many years to right this country as it is now.
There are many issues to consider. They will have negative effects on our country and ultimately "we the people." These range from reducing our military and weakening our defenses, to increasing taxes that will cripple our economy even more. More alarming is Obama telling Russian President Medvedev that this election is his last one and that he will have more flexibility after the election. What exactly was that supposed to mean?
These are issues of concern along with the economy, Obamacare and job creation. These things should bother you. They are frightening and very important in light of what the past four years have yielded and even more importantly is the recent unrest in the Middle East and especially the planned slaughter of our Ambassador to Liyba. Simply put: If people aren't able to get the job done, then we need to let them go. Because of these concerns, I would rather hand Romney the key to the White House. He is an experienced leader and businessman who is a determined, hard-working and intelligent gentleman. I strongly believe that he should be given a chance to turn this country around as we truly have no choice. It is time for change!
I also watched the Democrat convention where I grew weary of hearing about women's rights being trampled by the Republicans regarding the abortion issue and the presumptuous suggestion that the taxpayers should pay for sex changes and birth control. Does anyone really believe in God and His precepts anymore? Well, that question was answered when it came to the Democrats platform where God was omitted. Three times, in a vote, He was denied by the Democrats. That was amazing to watch. People need to lift up their eyes and focus on what is at stake. We are in the process of electing a leader for our country for the next four years. It's time to think about our country, and not just ourselves.
