Knife, drugs confiscated

WARREN - Police said they found a knife and some crack cocaine on a man they arrested early Wednesday morning after seeing what appeared to be a drug deal.

James Peyatt, 49, 515 Holly Circle, Girard, was arrested on the charges of drug abuse and carrying a concealed weapon, and William Dotson, 37, 158 Elm Road, was arrested on the charge of drug abuse at about 12:45 a.m. at a 1290 E. Market St. gas station.

An officer on patrol said he spotted the pair at the gas station engaged in what looked to be a drug deal and detained them until other officers arrived, a police report states.

Officers found two rocks of crack cocaine next to Peyatt and another next to Dotson, the report states, and a knife was found on Peyatt.

They were both taken to the Trumbull County Jail.

Lease plan passes second reading

YOUNGSTOWN - City Council will wait two more weeks before deciding whether to lease city-owned land for drilling for natural gas by hydraulic fracturing.

A proposed ordinance to enter into an agreement with the oil and gas companies was sent to a third reading on Wednesday night.

More than 100 people crammed into Council chambers, many of them armed with anti-fracking signs, Tribune Chronicle newspartner WYTV 33 News.

Council must vote on the proposal by Oct. 17.

State Sen. Joe Schiavoni, D-Boardman, addressed Youngstown City Council on the dangers and benefits of oil and gas drilling.

Arrest made in gunshot to groin

YOUNGSTOWN - An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on charges that he shot another man in the groin on Monday.

Michael J. Anderson of North Brockway Avenue was charged with second-degree felonious assault and misdemeanor firing a gun into a home. He was arrested Wednesday at 3321 Hudson Ave.

He is accused of shooting Jajuan Adkins-Holland, 21, of East Avondale Avenue at his home.

A witness reported that Adkins-Holland was seen on his front porch around 11 p.m. Sunday arguing with six or seven people, including a woman, Tribune Chronicle newspartner WYTV 33 News reported. The witness also told police the men were wearing rubber gloves.

Reports said the woman argued with Adkins-Holland earlier that evening, and she had accused him of attempting to rape her in the past.

Adkins-Holland was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he underwent surgery.

Tribune editors head to Cortland

CORTLAND - The next stop in a yearlong series of gatherings to allow the public to meet the editors of the Tribune Chronicle is scheduled for Tuesday in Cortland.

Readers are invited to ask questions and make suggestions at the event, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Cortland Branch Library, 578 Lakeview Drive.
