Magic club announces show
Tickets are on sale now for the Youngstown Magic Club's ''Night of Magic'' on Nov. 3 at the LaBrae High School Auditorium, 1001 N. Leavitt Road, Leavittsburg.
This year's lineup will include comic magician Michael Finney and juggler Nels Ross as well as strolling magic by club members. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $15 and can be ordered by calling 330-883-0513.

Documentary screened at Wean Foundation
The documentary ''Fairytale: 1,001 Chinese Visitors'' will be shown at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Raymond John Wean Foundation, 147 W. Market St., Warren, as part of the ''Living as Form: The Nomadic Version'' exhibition at various locations in the Mahoning Valley.
Artist Ai Weiwei brought 1,001 residents of China to Kassel, Germany, in 2007 for a popular art fair. With $4.14 million in funding, he paid for air fare, processed visa applications, transported Chinese chefs to prepare meals and refurbished an old textile mill into a temporary hostel. Kassel was home to the Brothers Grimm, and Weiwei named the project ''Fairytale'' in reference to their tales and as a nod to the spirit of the trip.
The movie will be shown from 6 to 9 p.m., including intermission. Admission is free. Riverfest celebrated in Youngstown
Friends of the Mahoning River will have its first Mahoning Riverfest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday outside the B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown.
The event will start with birdwatching at 9 a.m., and the band Full Moon Canoe will perform on the deck from 9 to 11 a.m. Displays, presentations and demonstrations are planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Inside the B&O Station will be the Artober Show & Sale organized by the Artists of the Rust Belt. The show featuring the work of local artists runs from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $1.
YSU offers arts open house
Youngstown State University's College of Fine & Performing Arts will have an open house on Monday for high school students interested in the arts.
Students and families interested in any of the four departments housed within the college art, communication, music or theater & dance will have the opportunity to participate in tours, classroom visits, presentations and to meet with faculty and students. Dana School of Music activities begin at 8:30 a.m, and activities for the other three departments start at 10 a.m.

Opera tickets on sale
Tickets are on sale now for Opera Western Reserve's production of ''The Barber of Seville,'' which will be staged Nov. 30 at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Youngstown native Lawrence Brownlee, an internationally recognized tenor who has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, will sing the role of Count Almaviva. Another Youngstown native, Randa Rouweyha, will singe the role of Rosina. The cast also includes Warren native Brian Keith Johnson in the title role.

Astronaut speaks at science center
NASA Astronaut Mike Foreman will speak Saturday at the Great Lakes Science Center, 601 Erieside Ave., Cleveland.
Foreman will meet with visitors and sign autographs starting at 12:45 p.m. before a presentation at 2 p.m. on NASA's Commercial Crew Program, which is guiding the development of several spacecraft and rockets that are expected to carry astronauts to the International Space Station before the end of the decade. Foreman is a veteran of two space flights and has logged more than 637 hours in space, including 32 hours and 19 minutes of EVA in five spacewalks.
