Man undergoes surgery after being shot in groin

YOUNGSTOWN - A city man was treated at a local hospital after being shot in the groin early Monday during an argument at a home on the South Side, according to police reports.

Jajuan Adkins-Holland, 21, was found with the gunshot wound around 1 a.m. in his home on East Avondale, police said.

A witness reported that Adkins-Holland was seen on his front porch around 11 p.m. Sunday arguing with six or seven people, including a woman, Tribune Chronicle newspartner WYTV 33 News reported. The witness also told police the men were wearing rubber gloves.

Reports said the woman argued with Adkins-Holland earlier that evening and that she had accused him of attempting to rape her in the past.

Adkins-Holland was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he underwent surgery.

As of Tuesday night no arrests had been made.

Police claim man desecrated memorial

WARREN - A man was arrested in the parking lot of the police station about 6:40 p.m. Monday after he was spotted urinating on a monument for fallen police officers, according to a police report.

Richard Mowery, 52, 4445 Berkshire St. S.E., was charged with desecration. An officer on patrol reportedly spotted Mowery in the parking lot of the station at 141 South St. S.E. walk up to the front of the municipal building before unzipping his pants and urinating on the monument.

Mowery told police he could not control himself any longer, a report states.

He has yet to be arraigned.

Man is arrested on claims of 911 misuse

WARREN - Brian Walker, 2302 Beck St. S.E., was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Monday on a charge of misuse of 911. Police said he called 911 seven times for nonemergency issues.

Dispatchers reported receiving calls from Walker that ranged from missing his keys to him threatening a woman he knows and other people, a police report states. He also changed his story several times, reports said.

Officers were dispatched to his home and arrested him. Reports state Walker had a strong odor of alcohol and was confused. He told police he took prescription drugs and drank beer, reports state.

Southington trustees to meet on architect

SOUTHINGTON - Southington Township trustees will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the township hall to discuss hiring an architect for the 1907 school building and to discuss a lease to drill natural gas through Associated Landowners of the Ohio Valley.

Columbiana County man killed in crash

NORTH GEORGETOWN - The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Lisbon is investigating a 12:30 p.m. Tuesday crash in North Georgetown that claimed the life a Columbiana County man.

Rick Cyders, 64, of Homeworth, was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol reported.

Winfred Alderhold, 76, of Kensington, was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup south on Westville Lake Road when he went through a stop sign at the intersection of Georgetown Road, troopers said. He struck Cyders' truck, a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup, which was traveling east on Georgetown Road.

Parties to hold debate watching parties

YOUNGSTOWN - The Democrat and Republican parties in Mahoning County will hold watch parties tonight for the first presidential debate.

For Democrats, the event begins at 8:30 p.m. at the Organizing for America campaign office, 4478 Boardman Canfield Road.

Republicans will hold their party beginning at 9 p.m. at the Mahoning County Republican Party headquarters, 621 Boardman Canfield Road.
