Judge allows 7 of 9 Amish free on bond
COLUMBUS - A judge is allowing seven of nine Amish defendants convicted in beard- and hair-cutting attacks on fellow Amish to remain free before they are sentenced early next year.
U.S. District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster says he's mindful that their immediate detention could leave a number of very young children without parents.
But Polster also said in a ruling Monday that all defendants should be prepared to be taken into custody in late January if he imposes a prison sentence.
Most of the defendants Polster is allowing to stay free are women who said they have large families to care for.
The judge declined to allow two defendants, Lester Miller and Raymond Miller, to remain free and ordered them to report to U.S. marshals by Friday.

to meet on budget
WARREN - Warren City Council will be talking budgets today.
Beginning at 3 p.m., members will hold a third-quarter review for the 2012 budget, an audit exit conference on the 2011 budget and discuss the 2013 budget.
The meeting will be held in the caucus room at the municipal justice building.
Insanity plea filed in school shooting case
CHARDON - The defense for an Ohio teenager charged in a school shooting rampage that left three students dead has filed an insanity plea on his behalf.
The one-sentence filing Monday on behalf of 18-year-old suspect T.J. Lane had been expected and didn't elaborate on the insanity issue.
Lane's attorneys have said he suffers from hallucinations, psychosis and fantasies.
Attorneys filed the not guilty by reason of insanity plea in Geauga County.
Lane is being tried as an adult and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole if convicted of the shootings Feb. 27 in the Chardon High School cafeteria.
The prosecutor did not immediately return phone and email messages Monday seeking comment on the insanity plea.
Warren man jailed on robbery charges
WARREN - A Warren man remained in Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond after pleading not guilty Monday to two counts of aggravated robbery and having weapons under disability.
Police arrested Timothy Lamarr Keene, 33, early Monday, using a Taser and forcing him to the ground in a driveway on the 100 block of Parkman Road N.W., finding a loaded magazine for a pistol in his rear pocket.
A handgun was found later on Parkman near where a couple said they were robbed at gunpoint of $600 they had just withdrawn from an ATM on West Market Street shortly after 2 a.m.
Police said Keene still had identification from one of the victims in his pocket.
He returns to Warren Municipal Court Oct. 9 for a preliminary hearing.
Man treated for gunshot wounds
LIBERTY - A Campbell man was being treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center after police here said he suffered a gunshot to his hand and foot late Sunday night.
Police Chief Rich Tisone said Shaquille McWilson, 19, of Regent Street, Campbell, refused to cooperate with officers who tried to question him early Monday at the hospital.
Officers were first called to a home at 3035 1/2 Northgate Drive about 11:35 p.m. when neighbors heard a gunshot, but McWilson had already gone to the hospital.
