Fire station sets open house

WARREN FIRE DEPARTMENT PLANS OPEN HOUSES: In recognition of Fire Prevention Month in October, the Warren Fire Department Central Station, 111 South St., will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

There will be fire prevention education activities and presentations. Attendees can spray a fire hose and learn fire safety in a smoke simulation trailer. There will be a Jaws of Life auto extrication demonstration.

YOUNGSTOWN FIRE HOLDS OPEN HOUSE: The Youngstown Fire Department will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fire Station 1 downtown and Fire Station 2, 125 Indianola Ave.

The event will include a smoke detector giveaway, firehouse tours and demonstrations of auto extrication at Station 1 at 11 a.m. and rope rescue at Station 2 at 1 p.m. There will be a free raffle of fire protection equipment including fire extinguishers and carbon monoxide detectors.

FOOD COOPERATIVE BRINGS FRESH PRODUCE: Humility of Mary Health Partners and the Lake-to-River Food Cooperative will offer a food market from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joe's Minor Emergency Care, 1296 Tod Place N.W., Warren. Several area farmers will be selling locally grown produce. This will be the last market for the season.

HOWLAND OFFERS TIRE COLLECTION: Howland Township is conducting a scrap tire dropoff for township residents only from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday. Residents may drop off a maximum of eight passenger tires only, with no rims, at the Public Works Department, 3600 N. River Road. For information, call 330-856-4037.

OPEN HOUSE TO SHOWCASE HISTORY: Austintown Historical Society will hold a free open house from 1 to 4 p.m. the first Sunday of each month at the Austin Log Cabin, 3797 S. Raccoon Road, or the Strock Stine House, 7171 Mahoning Ave. Tours are available of the two locations. The Strock Stine House was built in 1832 and the Austin Log Cabin in 1824. Call 330-799-8051.

PARISH HOLDS SALE: St. Robert Parish, state Route 46, Cortland, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Lunch will be available. Saturday is $1-a-bag day.
