LEAVITTSBURG - Betty Jean Dakin, 89, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at her residence with her family at her side.
Betty was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Franklin, Pa., the daughter of William A. and Mildred Kelley Sanderson.
Betty resided in Leavittsburg all her life. She enjoyed everything that went with being a mother. Betty enjoyed Girl Scouts with her daughters and was an active member of Grace Baptist Church and a former member of Old Erie Eastern Star.

During World War II Betty supported the war effort by being a welder at Warren City Tank. She worked at Streamliner Restaurant, J.C. Penney's, Sabitini's, and Cisco's Restaurant. Her favorite job was Mickey's Army and Navy store for 18 years.
Betty's husband, Robert C. Dakin, whom she married in 1949, passed away.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory two sons, William "Bill" Ranttila of Girard and Mickey (Sally) Dakin of Bristolville; four daughters, Mindy Dakin of Leavittsburg, Nancy (Kenny) Brown of Brimfield, Becky (Alan) Naylor of Warren and Lynette Dakin of Leavittsburg; a brother, Lawrence "Sandy" Sanderson of Leavittsburg; two sisters, Billie Wycoff of Newton Falls and Ruthie (Dick) Mosier of Warren; 17 grandchildren, Sharla Ranttila, Daniel Ranttila, Nichole Ranttila, Carla Waldeck, Mike Ranttila, Jason Thigpen, Angie (Chris) Phillips, Kari Swenson, Mandy (Dusty) Parker, Alex Brown, Abbey (E.J.) Brannon, William (Theresa) Naylor, Chris (Sarah) Naylor, Robert Naylor, Bobette Antonell, Katie Antonell, Landon Antonell, Mike Dakin and Kim Dakin; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by two daughters, Bobette Gearheart and Lynette Dakin, and a son, Jake Ranttila.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Herron Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church in Champion preceded by a one hour calling hours at the church.
Burial will be at Pine Knoll Cemetery.
