YOUNGSTOWN - Mars "Dutley" Thornton, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Northside Medical Center.
Mr. Thornton was born Oct. 26, 1926 in Marianna, Ark., the son of Rufus and Odessa Robinson Thornton.
He served in U.S. Navy and was formerly employed with Republic Steel.

He was a member of St. James AME Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Fortune Thornton; three daughters, Vera Carroll of Warren, Cynthia Johnson of Youngstown and Janeen Davis; two sisters, Mildred Black and Neather Turner, both of Youngstown; two brothers, Melvin Thornton of Chicago and Edward Thornton of Marianna,a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will be in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
