ORCHID: To Trumbull County 4-Hers who will participate along with thousands of boys and girls nationwide in observing National 4-H Week Oct. 7 to 13. More than 600 4-H members and 150 volunteers are involved in 4-H club programs in the county, while an additional 300 are involved in short-term and special-interest programs.

ORCHID: For the Garden 2012 Conference for Master Gardeners being held this weekend in downtown Warren. It's called "Bloom Where You are Planted'' and highlights urban gardening. In conjunction with the event, a garden festival will be held Saturday at Courthouse Square featuring lectures and presentations.

ONION: For needing to have a ceremony to remember murdered children. The annual Parents of Murdered Children's ''Day of Remembrance'' is Sunday at the log cabin at Courthouse Square. An ORCHID for those participating.

ORCHID: For Operation Community Cleanup Day held today at the Interfaith Community Center playground along state Route 169. Volunteers will cut grass and weeds, paint where needed, pick up litter and perform other tasks.

ORCHID: For the project to replace malfunctioning septic systems with sewers in the Kermont Heights neighborhood of Hubbard Township. Some funding was announced this week that will allow the project to be advertised for bids. It involves the construction of nearly 17,000 feet of sewer to service 163 homes.

ORCHID: For Someplace Safe holding its 18th annual Unity Day Monday at Courthouse Square. Part of observing Domestic Violence Awareness Month to remember those who have died because of domestic violence, it celebrates those who have survived.

ONION: To the attorneys with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. (PBGC) rejecting mediation with Delphi salaried retirees pension issues. A spokesman for the insurer said Thursday that it can pay out only the amounts authorized by Congress. The announcement came after six weeks of discussions. The retirees have been trying for three years to get their full pensions from Delphi. In 2009, pension payments were reduced 30 to 70 percent lower than the retirees had expected.

ORCHID: To Humility of Mary Health Partners, which kicked off the construction of a $98 million expansion of its St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center campus on Market Street this week. A seven-floor patient tower is being built. The first three floors are expected to be completed in 2014. The construction is part of a $103.7 million expansion and improvements project.
