Thu. 10:14am: Judge OKs venue change in frat house shooting case

September 27, 2012
Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

YOUNGSTOWN - A Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge today agreed to a change of venue in the trial of the brother of the man convicted in a shooting at an off campus fraternity in February 2011.

Judge John Durkin agreed to the request by Mark Jones saying that recent publicity surrounding the conviction and sentencing of his brother, Columbus Jones, would make it almost impossible to seat a jury in Mahoning County.

Columbus Jones was convicted in August of the murder of Jamail Johnson and the wounding of 11 others at the Indiana Avenue fraternity house.

Durkin said he hopes to start the trial sometime in mid-November, but it depends on the availability of a court in another county.
