Honor Joshua at memorial

EVENT TO HONOR MEMORY OF BOY: The Emmanuel Community Church, 6512 Kirk Road, Austintown, will hold a car and motorcycle show memorial for Joshua Walker from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The event will celebrate's Joshua's life. He suffered from a rare and debilitating disease known as metachromatic luekadystrophy and died in June. Registration is by donation. There will be a 50-50 raffle, bake sale and Chinese auction. Call Lisa at 330-799-6187.

FAIRHAVEN HOLDS OPEN HOUSE: The Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities will hold an open house and levy kick off party from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Fairhaven Niles Workshop, 420 Lincoln Way. The free event will include carnival games, fire trucks, music, blood pressure checks, tours and exhibits. The Fairhaven Drum Circle and Fairhaven cheerleaders will perform.

BOOK GRANT APPLICATIONS SOUGHT: First Book Trumbull County is accepting book grant applications from local nonprofit programs serving children in need. First Book hopes to grant approximately 3,000 new books to programs in the area. Teachers and directors of local preschools, day care, after-school, tutoring and mentoring programs are encouraged to apply. To be eligible, organizations are required to: incorporate reading as part of their program activities, serve children and families from low-income households, and support the child's ongoing education outside of the school classroom setting. Applications are due by Oct. 31. Each child participating in a program that receives a grant will receive ideally between 6 and 12 books each. They will also receive a bookplate on which to place their names,. To request an application or get involved with First Book, call Ellen Finan, at 330-638-4393.

EVENT SET AT LIBRARY:The Liberty Library Branch, Churchill Road, will hold a Midweek Mayhem Open Art Studio at 3 p.m. today. Participants will learn about different art techniques and create a design of their own. The event will include sculpting, drawing and painting using a variety of mediums. The program is for students fifth grade and older. Registration is required by calling 330-759-2589.
