State patrol investigates fatal Weathersfield crash
WEATHERSFIELD - A Mineral Ridge man died in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon in Weathersfield.
A Chevy Malibu driven by Troy Jones, 28, of Mineral Ridge, crashed head-on into a empty pickup truck parked in front of the Checkered Express Truck and Trailer Repair on West Liberty Street, between Salt Springs Road and Four Mile Run Road.
Witnesses said the driver of the Malibu was slumped over the steering wheel as he came over the hill at about 4:30 p.m., according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol report. Troopers said the Malibu hit a guardrail and then struck the pickup at a high rate of speed.
Troopers told Tribune Chronicle newspartner WYTV 33 News that they suspect the man suffered a medical problem before the crash. The crash still is under investigation.
Youngstown to meet on operations report
YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown City Council and Mayor Charles Sammarone will meet with David Eichenthal of PFM Group at 3 p.m. today in council chambers to discuss phase 1 of the operations efficiency report.
Robbers take food, cash from Warren deliveryman
WARREN - A man delivering food ordered from a local bar was robbed and beaten Tuesday night at a home on Forest Street N.W., police said.
Raymond J. Kovac Jr., 49, of McMyler Street N.W., told police he took about $27 worth of food to the address on Forest about 9:30 p.m. and no one answered the door. Kovac said he called the number back and a female answered saying she had been taking a shower and could he come back and drop off the food.
Kovac said he was nearly on the front porch of the home when he got off the phone and got jumped by two men, who made off with $13 in cash and the food, the report states.
He was treated at a local hospital for swelling of his eye and other parts of his face.
Jury for school shooting suspect may be local
CHARDON - A court is holding off on a request to relocate the trial of T.J. Lane, who pleaded not guilty to fatally shooting three students and injuring others at a high school.
The News-Herald in Willoughby reports a court has deferred the request for a change of venue. Court officials said Tuesday a Geauga County judge determined the court first must try to seat an unbiased jury but could later move the trial if needed.
The decision came just ahead of Lane's 18th birthday Wednesday.

Readers are invited to ask questions and make suggestions at the event, at the Mayor Ralph A. Infante Wellness Center, 213 Sharkey Drive, Niles.
Scheduled to attend are Tribune Chronicle editor Frank Robinson; managing editor Guy Coviello; Niles Times editor Kathleen Evanoff; business editor Brenda Linert; features editor Mary Beth Wyko; humor columnist and assistant metro editor Burton Cole; entertainment writer Andy Gray; Browns beat reporter Mike McLain; and community news reporter Bob Coupland.
Light refreshments will be served. The monthly sessions are being coordinated as part of the Tribune Chronicle's bicentennial celebration.
The next Meet the Editors event is planned for Oct. 9 in Cortland.
