BROOKFIELD - A Sharon, Pa., man was being held in lieu of $50,000 bond after pleading not guilty Monday to felonious assault in connection with a shooting following an argument in a bar here early Sunday.
Raymond L. Deifenderfer, 32, of Logan Avenue, was scheduled to return to Eastern District Court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
He is accused of shooting Bryan Bacon, 39, of Castle Rock Drive, Brookfield, shortly after 3 a.m. outside Club Topsy, 1846 Lorain St., according to police Chief Dan Faustino.
Detective Pete Gibb arrested Deifenderfer after he made contact over the phone. Deifenderfer turned himself in following a brief investigation, police said.
Police found Bacon in the doorway of the club. He had been shot in the right calf.
He was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Patrons inside the club called police after hearing a shot fired outside.
Gibb found a .45-caliber casing in the parking lot of the club and later recovered a .45-caliber handgun believed used in the shooting.
Gibb and Faustino said Deifenderfer and Bacon argued earlier inside the bar reportedly over remarks Bacon made to a woman Deifenderfer was with at the club.
