He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged, serving during the Korean War.
Mr. Newsome enjoyed reading, drawing, working outdoors and building things, and loved nature and wildlife. He was particularly fond of water fowl. Life was about being happy, fun-loving and sometimes silly.
His real love was his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He would spend his time building toys, forts and tree houses for them to play. He also would invent games and do arts / crafts projects to entertain them. "Uncle Bob" made summers at home seem like a campground for everyone to flock to.
Robert is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Emma L. Roberts, whom he married Dec. 14, 1970; a daughter, Linda (Clyde) Smith of Jupiter, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Dottie Newsome of Sandy, Utah; four grandchildren, Randy (Stacie) Stelk of Howland, Thomas (Cheryl) Smith of Apopka, Fla., Shannon Smith of Tallahassee, Fla., and Matthew Newsome of Sandy; three great-grandchildren, Stefan Stelk of Warren and Shane and Brianna Stelk of Howland; and two sisters, Ann Jacobs of Toledo and Mary DiCola of Parkman.
Other than his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Newsome, and four brothers, Roy, Richard, Thomas and Leo Newsome.
Private services will be held for the immediate family members only at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
