M. Edward Lyons 1939-2012

CHAMPION - M. Edward Lyons, 73, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at his home of natural causes.

Ed was born Sept. 5, 1939, in Indiana, Pa., the son of the late John Marshall and Helen Polaski Lyons.

Mr. Lyons retired from Packard Electric in 1995 after 30 of service, where he was a high-lift operator and a packer.

He was a member and usher at Grace Baptist Church in Champion.

He loved to golf, enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers football fan. He also was very good at playing cornhole.

Edward is survived by his wife, the former June Vondrasek, whom he married June 11, 1961; his three children, Scott (Sandi) Lyons of Castle Rock, Colo., Denise (Greg) Gwinnup of Akron and Brenda (Ben) Harrell of Warren; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Leroy (Stella) Lyons of Warren and Gerald Mechtly of Longmont, Colo. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Ruth Champlin Vondrasek of Champion.

Other than his parents, Ed was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, where Pastor Bill Mazey will celebrate Ed's life.

Family and friends may visit at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Ed will be laid to rest in the Champion Township Cemetery.
