K. Richard Woofter 1916-2012

MECCA - K. Richard Woofter, 95, died on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1916, in Plymouth, the son of the late Karl Woofter and the late Ethel Mann Woofter.

Richard moved from Plymouth to Mecca in 1932 and graduated from Mecca High School in 1934. He was a member of West Mecca United Methodist Church and had worked as a welder at Stanwade Metal Products in Hartford for 55 years before retiring at the age of 83.

He enjoyed playing softball, but mostly he enjoyed working.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Alice Hubbard Woofter, whom he married on June 6, 1941; son, Curtis (Karen) Woofter of Mecca; a daughter, Rita (John) Hottell of Aurora; and two sisters, Alberta Hammond of Champion and Karlene (Marlin) Moschell of Cherry Valley.

Also surviving are five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamara Woofter; four brothers, Lynn, Stanley, Robert and Max Woofter; and by three sisters, Marjorie Martin, Leona Gale and Virginia Muir.

A service will be held at West Mecca United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Sept. 30.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to West Mecca United Methodist Church, 1215 Greenville Road, Cortland, OH 44410, or to Senior Independent Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield, OH 44406.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland.
