Stella C. Spala 1923-2012

HENDERSON, Nev. - Stella Catherine Spala, 88, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, of natural causes.

Stella was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Leavittsburg, where she attended school and received her diploma.

She married the late Henry Spala Sr. in 1946, and over their 58 years of marriage resided in Warren and California, before finally settling in Nevada in 2002.

Stella was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Henderson, and previously St. Justin Martyr in Anaheim, Calif., and the Pope John Paul II Polish Center in Yorba Linda, Calif. She previously worked for the General Electric Co., Joy Manufacturing and Sundstrand corporations, only to retire at age 72.

She is survived by four sons, Henry Spala Jr. of Las Vegas, Gene Spala of Fairfield, Calif., Gerald Spala of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Kevin Spala of Oakland, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

In her lifetime, in addition to the graduations, weddings, holidays and family gatherings, Stella managed to travel to her parental homeland in Poland three times. She enjoyed cooking, choir, baking and old black-and-white movies. Her wit, generosity and warmth will be greatly missed.

A viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Palm Eastern Mortuary Center in Las Vegas, and there will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Henderson.
