Mountain bike class offered

METROPARKS OFFERS CLASS: The Trumbull County MetroParks is offering a beginners mountain bike class to be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 23, with a rain date Sept. 30, at the newest Trumbull County MetroPark, North Road Nature Preserve.

The event is jointly hosted by the Rust Belt Revival Coalition and Trumbull County MetroParks. There is no cost to participate, but pre-registration is needed.

Rust Belt Revival Trail Coalition instructors will give talks on rider safety, bike preparedness, trail hazards and basic mountain bike technique before participants take part in smaller groups on the trail to demonstrate techniques.

To preregistration, send an email to rustbeltmtb@ gmail.com for pre-registration. Confirmation emails will be sent to the first 25 applicants. All participants must provide their own bikes and wear a helmet. Participants are required to be at least 10, with parents accompanying any riders younger than 18. Class size is limited to 25 total participants.

FUNDRAISER SET BY AIR BASE: The Youngstown Air Reserve Station Base Community Council in conjunction with Youngstown State University are planning the third bi-annual ''Splendor in the Glass'' fundraising event from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 30 at Alberini's Restaurant in Niles. The event helps fund the Youngstown Air Reserve Base Community Council Scholarship Fund.

Tickets are $100 per person or $175 per couple. Those attending are to call by Sept. 24. The event will include wines, music and silent and Chinese auction.

Plans are to award two $2,500 scholarships. For information, call Renee at 330-507-4868.

EFFORT GETS SUPPLIES TO CHILDREN: Getting basic school supplies for children is part of the effort as part of Operation Christmas Child, a year-round project of international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan's Purse.

Participants fill shoe boxes with school materials, toys, necessity items and letters of encouragement for children in poverty around the world. National Collection Week is being planned for Nov. 12 to 19, when participants can fill shoe boxes with school materials, toys, necessity items and a letter of encouragement and drop it off at a collection site.
