SOV to mark 40th birthday

40TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY SET: Shepherd of the Valley's 40th anniversary party and prayer service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, Cornersburg.

Starting at 5 p.m. will be hors d'oeuvres with a stroll down Memory Lane, Shepherd's history on display. At 6:15 p.m. will be a prayer service featuring the mass choir of Shepherd of the Valley, led by Zion Lutheran Church.

Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, NEO Synod-ELCA, and Pastor Ronald Young, Ohio District-LCMS, will bring greetings celebrating Shepherd of the Valley's 40 years of ministering.

GRAY TO GREEN EVENT SEEKS DONATIONS: The Gray to Green Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Wick Park in Youngstown. Those residents able to donate used household items can do so between 10 a.m. and noon. Items will be available free to those in need.

The program, which is sponsored by the Mahoning County recycling division, is to make unwanted but useful items available to others and keep them out of landfills. Donations may include baby items, bedding, canned food, clothing, shoes and accessories, toys, kitchen items, tableware and plastic food containers.

GROUP TO MEET: The Girard Junior Women will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at Amen Corner in Girard. The group is open to the public and dues are $6 per year. Girard Junior Women is a nonprofit group with service projects aimed at improving the community of Girard and helping its residents.

PARENT-TEACHER GROUP TO MEET: The Warren G. Harding Parent-Teacher-Student Association will meet at 6 p.m. today at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. The meeting is open to the public.

LIBRARY HOLDS TOURNAMENT: The Super Smash Brothers Tournament will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Cortland Branch Library.The winner will go home with a $25 Best Buy card.

FOOD PANTRY HELPS: The Second Harvest Food Mobile Pantry is designed to deliver food to people in underserved areas in the Mahoning Valley. The pantry reaches people that may not have access or transportation to an established Food Bank member agency.

The Food Bank operates mobile pantry programs in Lake Milton in Mahoning County and Bristol and Mecca townships in Trumbull County.

EXPLORATION FAIR SET: An exploration fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Youngstown State University Kilcawley Center Chestnut Room. The one-day event provides an opportunity for current and transfer students to learn more about academic majors and minors. The event is sponsored by the YSU Academic Advising Association.
