Firefighter to be honored

EVENT TO HONOR FIREFIGHTER: The Northeast Christian Church, 865 Perkins Jones Road, Warren, will hold the second annual fall festival from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The event, which is held in honor of Richard Bee Sr., a deceased member of the Warren Township Fire Department, will include free food, games, a bounce house, music, door prizes and magic with Gary Morton. The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1 to 4 p.m. For information, call 330-372-2320. Bee was an active member of the fire department for 51 years and member of the church. He was also a blood donor.

FUNDRAISER TO HELP FOOD PANTRY: The St. Vincent DePaul Society of Mahoning County and The Knights of Columbus Bishop Fenwick Council 13586 will hold a fundraiser from 2 to 8 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Byzantine Center on Shady Run Road, Youngstown. The annual event is a fundraiser to support the soup kitchen and food pantry of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the charitable works of the Knights. The event includes dinner, 50-50 raffle and Chinese auction. Tickets are $20 per person by calling Brian at 330-690-8435 or Dennis at 330-503-5510.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENT HELD: Quaker Steak and Lube in Austintown, Boardman and Sharon, Pa., are taking part in a back-to-school event through Oct. 14 with deals for students, parents and teachers. Children age 8 and younger will receive school supplies and a coupon for a free kid's meal when they dine in.

CHURCH HOLDS FLEA MARKET: Central Christian Church, 2051 E. Market St., Warren, will hold an outdoor flea market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be 23 different vendors plus the church's booth and food. Money raised at the church booth and from table rentals goes toward the Christian Education programs of the church. WINE TASTE EVENT SET: ''Splendor in the Glass,'' a wine tasting celebration, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 30 at Alberini's Restaurant in Niles. Proceeds go to the Youngstown Air Reserve Base Community Council Scholarship at Youngstown State University. Attendees can participate in the silent auction and raffle, which features items from local businesses. Live entertainment is planned. SOIL DISTRICT TO HONOR FAMILY: The Soil and Water Conservation District will hold an awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 20 at the Farm Science Review in London, Ohio, to honor Supervisor Davis Denman and his family on being named as "Ohio's Farm Family of the Year" by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio Farmer Magazine. The public can attend the awards ceremony and visit the Farm Science Review. The event is free with the Denman family paying for the refreshments as well as admission to the show. The Trumbull SWCD is paying for busing costs. The bus will leave at 6 a.m. from the Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St., Cortland.
