Tribune Chronicle , Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

The sounds of the '50s and early '60s will open the 2012-13 season of the Warren Civic Music Association.

Cornell Gunter's Coasters perform the music of the vocal group that had 10 top 40 hits between 1957 and 1961, including ''Young Blood,'' ''Yakety Yak,'' ''Charlie Brown,'' ''Along Came Jones'' and ''Poison Ivy.''

The Marvelettes were one of the first Motown acts to achieve commercial success on that label. Its run of '60s hits included ''Please Mr. Postman,'' ''Playboy,'' ''Beechwood 4-5789'' and ''Don't Mess With Miss Bill.''

Larry Marshak's Tribute to The Platters will draw from a repertoire of 22 top 40 hits released by The Platters. It's best known for such ballads as ''Only You (And You Alone),'' ''The Great Pretender,'' ''My Prayer,'' ''Twilight Time'' and ''Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.''

None of the three acts feature original members of the groups whose songs they sing.

The three acts will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren.
