Quarterback: A
Kurt Hess had his way with the Pitt defense. He threw for 154 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also made great decisions and controlled the game with great poise. A great way to start the season.
Running Backs: A
The backs picked up a quiet 204 yards, if that's possible. Also, Jamaine Cook's halfback pass to Will Shaw in the third quarter probably sealed the game.
Receivers: A
Andre Stubbs had a great game to come back from injury, catching four for 61 yards. Shaw added 51. Three touchdowns were on the passing side. Again, a great first night.
Offensive line: A
The backfield put up 204 yards and Hess wasn't sacked. That alone says volumes for the front five. They are the core of the offense.
Defensive line: B
The line held Pitt's Ray Graham to 72 yards and Isaac Bennett to 44. They also came up with a huge stop on fourth and 1 in the third quarter.
Linebackers: B
If I could give a B-minus I would. The one thing Pitt did well during the day was screen passes over the middle. This is definitely an area the Penguins can improve on.
Secondary: C
Same goes for this unit. There were numerous times the Pitt receivers had the YSU secondary beat, but bad passes by Tino Sunseri got the Penguins out of trouble. There is definite room for improvement.
Coaching: A
The halfback pass in the third quarter was genius. Third-year coach Eric Wolford and his staff had a game plan and they stuck to it.
Special teams: A
Nick Liste was consistent as the punter and on kickoffs. David Brown was 4 for 4 on PATs and good on his only field goal of the day. Stubbs also put the Penguins in great field position on returns.
