NILES SCOPE OFFERS "ART'S WALK TO D.C.": The Niles SCOPE Senior Center will offer a Lunch 'n Learn program 11:30 a.m. Thursday to anyone 55 and older.
This month's topic will be "Art's Walk to D.C.," featuring speaker Art Dunn from Newton Falls. The talk will include a slideshow of Dunn's walk to Washington this year.
Dunn, 73, walked from Newton Falls to the Pentagon in memory of those who perished in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.

CHAMPION PRESENTS SCOPE PROCLAMATION: The township trustees will be presenting a proclamation at noon Sept. 13 to the Champion SCOPE Center, 4451 Mahoning Ave. N.W. The center, along with other Champion officials, will host an open house to mark the five-year celebration.
There will be a luncheon at 11:15 a.m. The cost is $3. Those planning on attending the luncheon should notify organizers as soon as possible at 330-847-8179.
HOWLAND RETIREES TO MEET: Howland Schools Retirees will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Enzo's, Elm Road, Warren.
All classified and nonclassified retirees and their spouses or guests are welcome to attend the monthly lunch meetings. Cost of the lunch, payable at the door, is $10, with a choice from three to four entrees. A brief and informal business and news-sharing meeting is followed by lunch and socializing.
Those attending are requested to bring one or more items for the collection of school supplies, nonperishable food, paper goods and hygiene items that will be delivered to Emmanuel House.
For retirees who want to be on the mailing list for the monthly newsletter and a new directory, the $10.50 fee to cover expenses is due by or at the October meeting. Cash may be paid at the meeting. PROGRAM SEEKS VOLUNTEERS: The Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer program of the Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for volunteers.
Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home or a visit at home. Angels also are involved in planning special events for seniors such as for health fairs and Make A Difference Day projects.
