NILES - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers surrendered three runs in the first inning on Wednesday night in a 5-2 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs. The loss dropped the Scrappers to 1-9 against Batavia in 2012.
Mahoning Valley was held to four hits, two of them by Joe Wendle. The Scrappers scored their two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Erik Gonzalez reached on an error to start the inning. With two outs, Wendle and Dorssys Paulino both singled. Joe Sever followed with a two-run single to score Gonzalez and Wendle.
The Scrappers begin their final home series of the season when Auburn comes to Eastwood Field for three games starting tonight at 7:05.
