The Oakland Center for the Arts will offer a sneak peak at its upcoming season with an open house on Friday.
Attendees will see musical numbers from ''Spring Awakening'' and ''Hair,'' both of which will be staged as part of the 2012-13 season, and have an opportunity to tour the theater. Performers will include Khaled Tabbara (and members of indie rock band The Zou), Kayla Boye, John Cox, Candy DiLullo, Craig Snay, Jason Green, Christopher Fidram, Kate Starling and Tommy O'Donnell.
Board and staff members, performers and volunteers will discuss plans for the upcoming year.
The evening starts at 7 p.m. with a reception featuring a wine and beer bar and appetizers by Roberto's Italian Ristorante in the Oakland's Star Gallery, which will display the work of members of Artists of the Rust Belt.
The sneak peak will be presented at 8 p.m., followed by tours and dessert from 9 to 10 p.m.
In addition to the musicals, the upcoming season will feature the AIDS drama ''The Normal Heart''; the comedy ''Hail to the Chef,'' written by Boardman native Michael Dempsey; the supernatural romance ''Prelude to a Kiss''; and the the Lillian Hellman's drama ''The Children's Hour.''
According to Oakland Board President Cleric Costes, ''This year is about widening our scope and re-introducing ourselves to a broader community. Recently we've been known for wild, quirky shows like 'Evil Dead: The Musical' and 'The Drag Queen Who Stole Christmas.' This is fantastic; we love our audiences to have an out-and-out blast. But we have also always been about providing cutting-edge theatre that makes people think and feel deeply in addition to being entertained. This season's powerful 'new classics' and hot musicals balance both sides of our personality and will delight both new and old fans."
Through Oct. 1, the Oakland will offer discounted season ticket subscriptions good for admission to all six shows for the price of three.
The open house runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Oakland Center for the Arts, 220 W. Boardman St., Youngstown. Admission is free, but reservations are requested by calling 330-746-0404.
