Assorted ramblings from the world of entertainment:
Saturday's concert featuring Pink Floyd tribute band Wish You Were Here and The Kellys was supposed to wrap up this year's River Rock at the Amp concert series. However, promoter Sunrise Entertainment has decided to add a Rocktober "thank you" for its fans.
Three past headliners from River Rock shows will share the bill on Oct. 20 for Rocktoberfest.
Ken Haidaris, co-founder of Sunrise Entertainment with Marty Cohen, said the idea was suggested by the vendors who work the summer series.
'Some of the vendors came up and said nothing is going on, there are no October festivals going on, and would you be interested in doing something,'' Haidaris said. ''It sounded like a good idea. We're grateful for our fans, and we just wanted to do something to say thank you.''
The lineup will feature Eagles' tribute band 7 Bridges, Bob Seger tribute Hollywood Nights and the Tom Petty act Full Moon Fever. 7 Bridges already has performed twice this summer at the Warren Community Amphitheatre, but the crowds that turned out both nights indicate that the Mahoning Valley's thirst for The Eagles hasn't been quenched yet.
''We kind of wanted to pick the most popular shows for the year,'' Haidaris said. ''Hollywood Nights, everyone raved about them, and 7 Bridges is huge. Bringing them back twice? Everybody loved it. And everyone has been asking us to bring back the Tom Petty tribute (which was part of the 2011 season).''
Haidaris said they plan to have fall beers for sale in keeping with the Octoberfest theme. They also will help promote the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County's Ghost Walk, which moved its dates to accommodate the music festival. Ghost Walk is planned Oct. 12-13 and 26-27 along Mahoning Avenue N.W.
The music will start at 4 p.m. and go until midnight. Tickets will be $7.
''Ohio State is playing in the afternoon (and won't conflict),'' Haidaris said. ''We just hope the weather is good and people will come out.''
The Mahoning Valley will be one of the first stops for a new documentary that looks at the impact of the United States' trade imbalance with China.
''Death by China'' is scheduled for a week-long run at Regal Austintown Plaza 10 starting Sept. 7. That same evening, director Peter Navarro, U.S. Rep Tim Ryan, D-Niles, and Ohio state Sen. Joe Schiavoni will participate in a screening at 7 p.m. at Ford Family Recital Hall at Youngstown DeYor Performing Arts Center.
Ryan is featured in the documentary, which argues that China has been flooding U.S. markets with illegally subsidized products since 2001, leading to factory closures, job losses and a debt of more than $3 trillion to China.
A post-screening panel discussion is planned at the recital hall. Admission is free, and tickets are available at the DeYor box office and by calling 330-744-0264.
Speaking of politically themed documentaries, ''2016 Obama's America'' will be held over for a second week at Regal Boulevard Centre in Niles and Regal Cinema South in Boardman.
The movie, based on Dinesh D'Souza's ''The Roots of Obama's Rage,'' already has grossed more than $10 million in theaters, placing it sixth all-time among political documentaries. Ahead of it are four films by Michael Moore and the global warming doc ''An Inconvenient Truth.''
