PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pennsylvania is proposing far-reaching changes to oil and gas drilling rules.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (http://bit.ly/OsgXi7 ) reports Tuesday that there are more than 100 proposed changes in a 23-page draft from the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The document is the first step in a regulatory rewrite that's required by recent changes to the state's 1984 Oil and Gas Act.

The proposals were sent to DEP's Oil and Gas Technical Advisory Board earlier this month. The five-member board, appointed by the governor, has scheduled public meetings in Harrisburg on Sept. 17 and Oct. 15 to review the proposed changes.

The paper reports that DEP says in a statement that the proposals are just memorializing existing regulations or industry practices.
