CHILD IMMUNIZATION IN NILES: The Niles City Health Department, 34 W. State St., will offer child immunizations from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. No appointment is necessary, but parents must bring children's immunization records. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

NAMI RESUMES REGULAR SCHEDULE: NAMI MV (National Alliance on Mental Illness) regular schedule for all support group meetings will resume in September at the same locations. Evening support groups are held from 7 to 9 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday.

Daytime support groups resume from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month.

PROGRAM OFFERED FOR DEALING WITH ISSUES: An eight-step Christian program based on the Beatitudes is open to anyone dealing with a life-controlling habit, hang-up or issue. BLUE RIBBON RUN FOR CANCER: Join the Blue Ribbon Run for Prostate Cancer Awareness on Sept. 9 at Wick Park in Youngstown and help save lives in the Valley.

The Blue Ribbon Run for Prostate Cancer Awareness includes a 10k and 5k run and a 2-mile walk.

Presented by the HMHP Foundation, the Blue Ribbon Race raises money to fund public awareness efforts in the Valley about the risks or prostate cancer and the importance of yearly testing. These educational efforts are developed by Man Up Mahoning Valley, a not-for-profit local organization whose goal is to save lives and enhance the prostate health of the men of the Mahoning Valley.

Robin Cole, former Pittsburgh Steeler All-Pro linebacker and a prostate cancer survivor, will be at the Blue Ribbon Race as the official starter for all three races. He will also speak during the awards ceremony.

Any race participant (walker or runner) who raises a minimum of $100 for Prostate Cancer Awareness will receive a giveaway sponsored by HMHP Foundation. The participant who collects the most sponsorship monies will be recognized at the Blue Ribbon Run awards ceremony.

The race will also reward the top three overall male and female finishers and the top three male and female in each age group. Race shirts are guaranteed to anyone who registers prior to Sept. 5.

Participants may also register the morning of the race beginning at 8 a.m.

The 10K and 5K events start at 9 a.m. while the 2-mile walk starts at 9:30 a.m.

Presented by HMHP Foundation and sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, The Blue Ribbon Run for Prostate Cancer Awareness is held in September to coincide with National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

ELIZABETH SMART KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT ANNIVERSARY EVENT: ValleyCare Health System of Ohio will host the Healthy Woman first anniversary event with keynote speaker Elizabeth Smart on Sept. 19 at the Mahoning Country Club, Girard. Smart, a kidnapping survivor and child protection advocate,will present "Overcoming Adversity," an inspirational message about life after a traumatic experience. In June 2002, at age 14, Smart was abducted from her home in Salt Lake City. Her kidnapping was a national news story until her ordeal ended nine months later.

The event starts with a free health and vendor expo from 4 to 6 p.m., open to the public. Health information and health screenings such as blood pressure, cholesterol and bone density testing will be available, along with numerous displays featuring a vast variety of products and services.

CANCER SOCIETY PROVIDES FREE WIGS: The American Cancer Society is providing free wigs to women going through cancer treatments and experiencing hair loss as a result.
