DEAR EDITOR:
The 2012 political campaign will certainly be the most negative and most expensive campaign in our history. I'm not just talking about the presidential race. Congressional and state-wide races will also have their share of negativity and major spending.
We can certainly criticize the Democrat and Republican parties for playing a major role in these developments. It almost seems like watching a TV sitcom scripted by a team of comedy writers.
They may think they are providing needed leadership. But in reality, they are accomplishing the exact opposite. Our young children could probably do just as well.
Of course, we the American people as a whole also must share the blame for what has developed. As our population has steadily increased over the past 40 years, and the population make-up has greatly changed, we have become more divided and less united.
The thousands of different groups that have formed believe their viewpoint is the correct one. Unfortunately, too many of these groups base their viewpoints on ignorance, not fact.
Therefore, how can we expect all of our representatives to truly lead us when we as a people cannot agree on where we want to go.
Yes, there will be a lot of money thrown at the candidates through November. Will anything really change as a result? Probably not. We won't even be able to agree on what the results are.
