CORTLAND - The four-day Kids Camp Wild helps local children learn about the nature of Trumbull County.
Jenna DePizzo, an instructor, said the Trumbull County 4-H program hosted the second annual Kids Camp Wild recently.
DePizzo said the camp was geared to children entering kindergarten to third grade and is based on the Ohio Division of Wildlife's Growing Up Wild curriculum.
She said the program emphasizes the same learning benchmarks as the elementary public school system.
"Kids will enjoy learning hands-on ways about the world around them,'' she said.
Daily themes included observation, insects, water and Ohio wildlife. The program was held at Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center.
DePizzo said the children took part in the children's garden outside and did craft work inside.
She said a goal of the camp is to teach kids about the environment.
"Environmental education allows children to go outside to play games and explore what resources we have here at the center. We encourage discovery of nature with the camp,'' she said.
Katina Ticoras, 7, said she learned new things and liked activities she can do with friends.
"I like the fun things we do and learn. I learned that the cricket can jump as far as twice their body length,'' she said.
Mason Littleton, 7, said a lot of the learning has been about animal life cycles.
"This is funner than I expected it to be," Littleon said.
