ELIZABETH SMART KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT ANNIVERSARY EVENT: ValleyCare Health System of Ohio will host the Healthy Woman first anniversary event with keynote speaker Elizabeth Smart on Sept. 19 at the Mahoning Country Club, Girard. Smart, a kidnapping survivor and child protection advocate,will present "Overcoming Adversity," an inspirational message about life after a traumatic experience. In June 2002, at age 14, Smart was abducted from her home in Salt Lake City. Her kidnapping was a national news story until her ordeal ended nine months later.
The event starts with a free health and vendor expo from 4 to 6 p.m., open to the public. Health information and health screenings such as blood pressure, cholesterol and bone density testing will be available, along with numerous displays featuring a vast variety of products and services.

CHILD IMMUNIZATION IN NILES: The Niles City Health Department, 34 W. State St., will offer child immunizations from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Aug. 29. No appointment is necessary, but parents must bring children's immunization records. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFERS IMMUNIZATIONS: The Warren City Health Department will hold a childhood immunization clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR VISION SCREENING: Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries' Amblyopia Vision Screening Program is in need of volunteers to help reach as many preschool children as possible during the upcoming school year.
Trained vision screeners go into preschools in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties and screen children for amblyopia. Volunteer training is scheduled for 9 a.m. until noon Sept. 6 at the Goodwill on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown. A light lunch will be included. Danielle Michaels from the Ohio Department of Health in Columbus will conduct the training session. Only one training session is scheduled, and training is mandatory for all who screen.

SCHOOL OF AUTISM NEEDS SUPPLIES: The Potential Development Program's School of Autism will be holding a back-to-school supply drive throughout August.
The items collected will be used in the kindergarten through eighth grade during the upcoming school year. The School of Autism is a non-public charter school for children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Last year, 52 students were enrolled.
