HOWLAND - George Prokop, 86, died Friday Aug. 17, 2012.
He was born March 23, 1926, in Avella, Pa., the son of the late Peter and Anna Prichina Prokop.
George was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a 1944 graduate of Howland High School, then went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University and later his master's from Kent State University.
He worked as a teacher and basketball coach for Liberty schools for 37 years before retiring in 1985.
He was a lifetime member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Church in Warren and an avid golfer, reader, walker and swimmer.
George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Root Prokop; two daughters, Sue (Mike) Datish of Howland and Nancy (Wayne) Reynolds of Concord; one son David (Carol) Prokop of Fowler; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Peter and Mike Prokop, and one sister Mary Hudak.
The family will receive friends at Lane Family Funeral Homes Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 180 Belvedere Ave., Warren, with the Very Rev. Andrew J. Deskevich officiating.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 500 E. Market St., Suite 19, Warren, OH 44484.
