Arms to host open house

MUSEUM HOSTING OPEN HOUSE: The Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., Youngstown, is hosting a free teacher open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Historical society staff will be on hand to go over the educational resources available which include: suitcase presentations, learning kits, curriculum guides and field trips. The open house will feature house tours, program demonstrations, and information about the new Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center. Light refreshments will be served. SOCIETY HOLDS OPEN HOUSE: The Hubbard Historical Society's McBride House, 27 Hager St, is having an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. on today. There is no charge for admission (donations accepted) and society members will be on hand to guide for tours. The Hubbard Schools commemorative postcards and Barbara Emch's book "Hubbard" will be available for sale, as well as other items.

HOPE RIDE PLANNED: The Cortland Relay for Life Hope Ride will be held Saturday with those wanting to participate asked to call Michael at 330-282-2035. Registration is $20 per person or $45 per family. The event will include lunch, snacks, refreshments, and raffles.

LIBERTY IN BLOOM TO BEAUTIFY: Liberty High School wrestling team and Liberty in Bloom Master Gardeners are organizing a cleanup fro 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with weeding and mulching for the entire school campus. The beautification project / cleanup will include the bridge on Shady Road. Plans are for lighting decorative poles at each corner of the bridge, a safe routes to school grant (no cost to the township) which is putting in sidewalks. HELP HOTLINE OFFERS TRAINING: Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. is offering free training classes for individuals interested in volunteering for the 24-hour hotline. Classes are from 6 to 9 p.m. for six consecutive Mondays, Sept. 10 through Oct. 15, and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment. Call 330-747-2696.
